High Frequency Transducer

A high frequency transducer is a device that converts electrical energy into high-frequency mechanical vibrations, enabling controlled delivery of ultrasound to a chemical system. In a common piezoelectric design, an alternating electric field causes a ceramic or crystal element to expand and contract rapidly, transmitting pressure waves through a liquid; at sufficient intensity, these waves can generate cavitation bubbles that form, grow, and collapse. The resulting localized mixing, heating, and high-energy conditions can accelerate reactions and improve mass transfer. In chemistry, high frequency transducers support sonochemistry, emulsification, extraction, particle dispersion, and sample preparation, making them useful for synthesis, materials processing, and analytical workflows.

2023

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fluid pressure is an important flow characteristic that is required to determine the aerodynamics of a system. One of the oldest and still existing pressure measurement systems is the manometer due to its accuracy and simplicity of operation. The manometer is generally a U-shaped glass tube that is partially filled with liquid, as shown in Figure 1. The U-tube manometer requires no...

Source: Amelia R. Adelsperger, Evan H. Phillips, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana High-frequency ultrasound systems are used to acquire high resolution images. Here, the use of a state-of-the-art system will be demonstrated to image the morphology and hemodynamics of small pulsatile arteries and veins found in mice and rats. Ultrasound is a relatively inexpensive, portable, and versatile method for the noninvasive...

2025

Here, we experimentally compare singly curved and straight piezoelectric transducers embedded in reinforced concrete structures for energy harvesting and structural health monitoring by evaluating their open-circuit voltage, power generation, power storage, and damage detection capability. Curved transducers have surpassed the straight ones, offering better performance for real-world applications.

We describe the generation of far-infrared radiation using an optically pumped molecular laser along with the measurement of their frequencies with heterodyne techniques. The experimental system and techniques are demonstrated using difluoromethane (CH2F2) as the laser medium whose results include three new laser emissions and eight measured laser frequencies.

2015

This protocol describes the application of high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) for imaging mouse cervical lymph nodes. This technique optimizes visualization and quantification of cervical lymph node morphology, volume and blood flow. Image-guided biopsy of cervical lymph nodes and processing of lymph tissue for histological evaluation is also demonstrated.
