Conceptual Framework

A conceptual framework is an organized set of concepts, definitions, assumptions, and proposed relationships that describes how a phenomenon is understood and studied. In clinical research, it links factors such as patient characteristics, interventions, biological or behavioral mechanisms, and health outcomes, helping investigators specify pathways and formulate testable questions. Researchers use conceptual frameworks to guide study design, select variables, structure data collection, interpret findings, and identify potential confounders or mediators. Clinicians and health professionals can also apply them to clarify complex care processes, connect evidence with practice, and support consistent evaluation of interventions and patient outcomes.

Bioavailability Enhancement: Determination and Conceptual Approaches in Overcoming Bioavailability Problems

2026

Bioavailability is a critical pharmacological concept that measures the extent and rate at which an active drug ingredient or therapeutic moiety enters the systemic circulation, remaining unchanged. It's a pivotal factor in determining a drug's efficacy and safety. The Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) plays an essential role in drug development by categorizing drugs into four classes based on their solubility and permeability. This classification aids in understanding drug absorption...

Source: Jennifer A. Ouellet and Jaideep Talwalkar; Yale School of Medicine To meet the needs of older adults, all health professionals should be well acquainted with the history and physical examination considerations unique to this population. Physical examination plays an important role in the older patient to detect physiologic changes of aging, risk factors, and signs of pathology. While most of the general principles of the standard examination for adults apply to older patients, there are...
