Hypothermia Care

Hypothermia care is the clinical assessment and treatment of an abnormally low core body temperature caused by excessive heat loss, impaired heat production, or both. Cold exposure reduces metabolic function and can progress from shivering and confusion to cardiac instability, respiratory failure, and loss of consciousness as body temperature falls. Care focuses on removing the patient from cold conditions, replacing wet clothing, insulating the body, and providing passive or active rewarming according to severity while monitoring airway, breathing, circulation, and cardiac rhythm. Prompt, structured management helps prevent complications and supports safe recovery in emergency, wilderness, and critical-care settings.
