Metabolic Issues

Metabolic issues are disturbances in the biochemical processes that convert nutrients into energy, build cellular components, and regulate internal balance, making them important causes or contributors to clinical disease. They can arise when enzymes, hormones, transport systems, or organs fail to control pathways involving carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, or electrolytes, leading to altered metabolite levels and impaired tissue function. Clinical assessment combines symptoms, medical history, physical examination, and laboratory measurements such as blood glucose, lipid profiles, electrolytes, and markers of organ function. Identifying the underlying disturbance supports diagnosis, treatment selection, risk assessment, and monitoring for conditions including diabetes, dyslipidemia, and inherited metabolic disorders.
