Skin Application

Skin application is the placement of medicines, protective agents, or diagnostic materials on the skin to produce a local effect or support delivery into the body. Its effectiveness depends on how the formulation interacts with the stratum corneum, the skin’s outer barrier, and how active compounds diffuse through or remain within the tissue. In clinical practice, skin application supports treatment of localized conditions, wound care, and transdermal drug delivery, while factors such as formulation, dose, contact time, and skin condition influence absorption and therapeutic outcomes. Understanding these principles helps clinicians select appropriate products and use them safely.
