Oviduct Segments

Oviduct segments are anatomically and functionally specialized regions of the female reproductive tract that guide gametes, support fertilization, and transport early embryos toward the uterus. The infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and uterotubal junction differ in epithelial cell composition, ciliary activity, smooth-muscle movement, and secretory properties, creating changing conditions along the oviduct. In developmental biology, studying this regional organization helps explain how tissue patterning and differentiation establish reproductive function. It also provides insight into embryo–maternal interactions, reproductive disorders, fertility, and the design of experimental models for early development.

2021

A method for microdissection of the mouse oviduct that allows collection of the individual segments while maintaining RNA integrity is presented. In addition, non-enzymatic oviductal cell dissociation procedure is described. The methods are appropriate for subsequent gene and protein analysis of the functionally different oviductal segments and dissociated oviductal cells.

Culture of normal cells in their three-dimensional context represents an alternative method to study early events required for cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. This method is used to grow normal ovarian and oviductal cells to study early events in ovarian cancer formation.

Improved Genome Editing via Oviductal Nucleic Acids Delivery-based In Vivo Electroporation Technique for Knockout Mice Generation

2025

The efficiency of the Improved Genome Editing via Oviductal Nucleic Acids Delivery (I-GONAD) method is comparable to traditional microinjection, which requires zygote collection from donor females and transfer to pseudo-pregnant females. This protocol demonstrates its effectiveness by introducing CRISPR/Cas9-induced mutations into the ROSA26 locus on chromosome 6.

Embryo Transfer Into Rabbit: A Procedure for Laparoscopy-Guided Transfer of Embryos Into Oviduct of Ovulating Recipient Female Rabbit Model

2025

This video describes the technique of transferring embryos into the oviduct of a recipient female rabbit via Laparoscopy. It allows embryo remodeling in rabbits during its migration through the oviduct, eventually helping in successful implantation. This technique can also be used for stored embryos with good efficiency.

Anterior Eye Segment Dissection: A Method to Isolate Cornea Bearing Anterior Segment from Porcine Eye
