Bulk Consolidation

Bulk consolidation is an engineering process that transforms loose powders, particles, or porous feedstock into a dense, cohesive bulk material, enabling useful mechanical and functional properties. It works by applying pressure, heat, or both to rearrange particles, reduce pore volume, and promote bonding through mechanisms such as plastic deformation, diffusion, or sintering. Engineers use bulk consolidation in powder metallurgy, ceramics, composite manufacturing, and advanced material production to create near-net-shape components while controlling density, microstructure, and residual porosity. The method supports efficient fabrication of materials that are difficult to produce through conventional melting or machining.

Bulk Modulus

2025

The bulk modulus is a scientific term used to describe a material's resistance to uniform compression. It is the proportionality constant that links a change in pressure to the resulting relative volume change. This concept becomes clearer when an isotropic material element is visualized as a cube of unit volume. When this cube is subjected to normal stresses, it undergoes deformation, changing its shape into a rectangular parallelepiped with a different volume. The discrepancy between this...

We present a protocol used to discover an interactive effect between sleep and cortisol on memory consolidation, particularly for negative arousing images. Specifically, the experimental design utilizes eye tracking, salivary cortisol analysis, and behavioral memory testing – methods that can be used with both healthy and clinical participants.

We describe an endpoint digital assay for quantifying nucleic acids with a simplified (analog) readout. We measure bulk fluorescence of droplet-based digital assays using a standard qPCR machine rather than specialized instrumentation and confirm our results by microscopy.

Bulk Density of Aggregate

2024

Bulk density refers to the mass of aggregate particles that would fill a unit volume. The concept of bulk density originates from the inability to pack aggregate particles in a manner that completely eliminates void spaces. Hence, the term bulk refers to the volume that encompasses both the aggregates and the voids. This measurement is crucial when aggregates are batched by volume and is used to convert quantities by mass to volume. Most natural mineral aggregates, like sand and gravel,...

Quantifying Bulk Autophagic Sequestration Activity in Mammalian Cells

2025

The video demonstrates an assay for assessing bulk autophagic sequestration activity in mammalian cells. It utilizes electroporation to release cytosolic proteins, including lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). The sequestered LDH and total cellular LDH fractions are determined to assess LDH sequestration, providing insights into the overall bulk sequestration activity.
