Collaborative Robot Assembly

Collaborative Robot Assembly is the use of robots designed to perform assembly tasks alongside human workers, combining automation with human dexterity, judgment, and adaptability. These systems use force and torque sensing, monitored speed and separation, and other safety controls to detect contact or unsafe conditions, allowing robots to handle parts, position components, fasten joints, or support guided operations within shared workspaces. In engineering, collaborative robot assembly can improve consistency, reduce repetitive or ergonomically demanding labor, and support flexible production for changing products and batch sizes. Its integration also informs the design of safer human-machine interfaces, adaptable manufacturing cells, and more responsive industrial automation.

This protocol describes a rod-based approach, combining 3D-printing and soft lithography techniques for fabricating the soft gripper devices. This approach eliminates the need for an external air source by incorporating a chamber component and reduces the chance of occlusion during the sealing process, particularly for miniaturized pneumatic channels.
