Barley Flour

Barley flour is a powder produced by grinding whole or pearled barley kernels, creating a versatile grain ingredient whose composition and processing influence food, feed, and resource use. Milling changes particle size and the relative contribution of the bran, germ, and endosperm, while soluble beta-glucan contributes water binding, viscosity, and fiber content. In environmental research, barley flour provides a basis for evaluating cereal production and processing through measures such as cultivation inputs, milling energy, by-product utilization, and life-cycle impacts. These assessments can inform lower-waste processing, efficient use of agricultural resources, and comparisons between barley-based products and alternative grains.
