Chemiluminescence Nox Analyzer

A chemiluminescence NOx analyzer is an instrument that measures nitrogen oxides, primarily nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), in gases, making it important for environmental monitoring and emission control. In its core reaction, NO combines with ozone to form excited nitrogen dioxide, which releases light as it returns to a lower-energy state; the emitted light intensity is proportional to the NO concentration, while NO2 is commonly converted to NO for total NOx measurement. These analyzers support air-quality assessment, industrial emissions testing, combustion research, and evaluation of pollution-control technologies.

Previous work suggests that the nitrogen isotopic composition of atmospheric nitrogen oxides might distinguish the influence of different sources in the environment. We report on an automated, mobile, field-based method for the high collection efficiency of atmospheric NOx for N isotopic analysis at an hourly time resolution.
