Dental Impression Accuracy

Dental impression accuracy is the ability of an impression to reproduce oral structures, including teeth, gingiva, and surrounding tissues, with sufficient dimensional and surface fidelity for clinical use. It depends on factors such as tray selection, material adaptation, moisture control, tissue displacement, and the timing and conditions of setting, because distortion or voids can alter the recorded anatomy. Accurate impressions support the fabrication of crowns, bridges, dentures, orthodontic appliances, and diagnostic casts by providing reliable forms for laboratory workflows and treatment planning. Assessing impression quality therefore helps reduce remakes, improve fit, and strengthen communication between dental clinicians and technicians.
