Healthy Subject Protocol

A healthy subject protocol is a structured plan for enrolling and studying participants without the disease or condition under investigation, providing a baseline for medical research. It typically uses eligibility screening, informed consent, standardized procedures, and controlled measurements to reduce confounding factors while protecting participant safety; researchers may monitor vital signs, laboratory values, symptoms, and responses to an intervention. In medicine, these protocols support early-phase clinical studies, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic assessments, device evaluation, and comparison with patient data. Careful design and oversight improve data quality, clarify treatment effects, and help determine whether an intervention is suitable for later studies in affected populations.

Bioavailability Study Design: Healthy Subjects Versus Patients

2025

Bioavailability studies are essential for evaluating a drug's therapeutic efficacy and understanding its absorption patterns under various physiological conditions. Conducting such studies on target patient populations provides more relevant data by simulating real-world disease states. However, practical challenges often necessitate the use of young, healthy adult volunteers as study subjects.Patients may exhibit altered drug absorption patterns due to the effects of the disease itself,...

2021

We study the effect of surgical masks on cardiopulmonary function based on a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). This study shows that surgical masks reduce cardiopulmonary exercise capacity and ventilation in healthy young subjects and wearing masks might affect aerobic exercise capacity more in female subjects than in male subjects.

This protocol describes the procedure for non-invasive recovery assessments during a 72 h recovery period. This protocol induces muscular exhaustion of the frontal thighs using countermovement jumps and uses either local cold-cuff or thermoneutral-cuff application as a recovery modality.

Virtual Prism Adaptation Therapy: Protocol for Validation in Healthy Adults

This experimental protocol demonstrates the use of virtual prism adaptation therapy (VPAT) in healthy adults and the association between VPAT and functional near infrared spectroscopy to determine the effect of VPAT on cortical activation. Results suggest that VPAT may be feasible and could induce similar behavioral adaptation as conventional prism adaptation therapy.
