Stemi Cardioprotection

STEMI cardioprotection refers to strategies that limit myocardial injury during and after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), when restoring blood flow is essential but can also trigger additional damage. These approaches target ischemia-reperfusion injury by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, calcium overload, mitochondrial dysfunction, and microvascular obstruction during reperfusion, using pharmacological, mechanical, or ischemic-conditioning methods. Cardioprotection is studied alongside timely reperfusion and primary percutaneous coronary intervention to preserve viable myocardium, reduce infarct size, and improve cardiac function. Its evaluation supports the development of treatments that may limit heart failure, adverse remodeling, and long-term complications after acute myocardial infarction.

Herein, we present a protocol for postconditioning with lactate-enriched blood, which is a novel approach for cardioprotection. This protocol comprises intermittent reperfusion and timely coronary injections of lactated Ringer's solution. This can be applied to ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients who undergo primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Classical multivariate pattern analysis predicts sensory stimuli a subject perceives from neural activity in the corresponding cortices (e.g. visual stimuli from activity in visual cortex). Here, we apply pattern analysis cross-modally and show that sound- and touch-implying visual stimuli can be predicted from activity in auditory and somatosensory cortices, respectively.

Continuous 12-lead electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring can identify transient myocardial ischemia, even when asymptomatic, among patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this article we describe our method for initiating patient monitoring using a Holter device, downloading the ECG data for off-line analysis, and how to utilize the ECG software to identify transient ischemia.
