Electrocardiography Data

Electrocardiography data are recordings of the heart’s electrical activity over time, providing a noninvasive view of cardiac rhythm and conduction. Surface electrodes detect voltage differences generated as electrical impulses spread through the atria and ventricles, producing waveforms such as the P wave, QRS complex, and T wave, along with measurable intervals and heart rate. In medicine, clinicians use these data to identify arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities, ischemia, and other cardiac conditions. Digital electrocardiography data also support continuous monitoring, automated signal analysis, clinical decision-making, and research into cardiovascular risk and treatment outcomes.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut An electrocardiograph is a graph recorded by electric potential changes occurring between electrodes placed on a patient's torso to demonstrate cardiac activity. An ECG signal tracks heart rhythm and many cardiac diseases, such as poor blood flow to the heart and structural abnormalities. The action potential created by contractions of the heart wall...

During murine myocardial ischemia/reperfusion surgery, correct placement of the occluding ligature is typically confirmed by visible observation of myocardial pallor. Herein, a method of electrocardiographically confirming ischemia and reperfusion, to supplement observed myocardial pallor, is demonstrated in male C57Bl/6 mice.
