Zone 0 Anastomosis

Zone 0 anastomosis is a surgical connection created in the proximal aortic arch, typically at the ascending aorta, during open or hybrid repair of arch disease. Surgeons construct this junction between a vascular graft and the native aorta while preserving or rerouting blood flow through the brachiocephalic, carotid, and subclavian arteries; in hybrid procedures, this debranching can establish a landing zone for an endovascular stent graft. Zone 0 anastomosis supports treatment of aortic aneurysms, dissections, and other complex arch pathology, but requires careful planning to maintain cerebral and upper-body perfusion and limit complications such as bleeding, stroke, and graft failure.

Zones of Protection

In power systems, the entire setup is divided into protective zones to isolate faults and protect the rest of the network. These zones include generators, transformers, buses, transmission lines, distribution lines, and motors. Each zone can be visualized as a separate room in a house, with each room protected by its own circuit breaker. Protective zones are defined by closed dashed lines, containing one or more components. A key characteristic of these zones is the strategic placement of...
