Anatomical Mri

Anatomical MRI is a noninvasive imaging method that produces detailed views of body structures, making it valuable for examining brain anatomy without ionizing radiation. The technique uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses to align hydrogen nuclei in tissues; as they return to equilibrium, their emitted signals are measured and converted into high-resolution images with tissue contrast determined by properties such as T1 and T2 relaxation. In neuroscience, anatomical MRI supports assessment of cortical and subcortical structures, lesion localization, brain-volume measurement, and alignment with functional or diffusion-based scans. These capabilities aid research on brain organization, development, aging, and neurological disease.

Whole-brain Segmentation and Change-point Analysis of Anatomical Brain MRI—Application in Premanifest Huntington's Disease

This paper describes a statistical model for volumetric MRI data analysis, which identifies the "change-point" when brain atrophy begins in premanifest Huntington's disease. Whole-brain mapping of the change-points is achieved based on brain volumes obtained using an atlas-based segmentation pipeline of T1-weighted images.

Simultaneous PET/MRI Imaging During Mouse Cerebral Hypoxia-ischemia

The method presented here uses simultaneous positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the cerebral hypoxia-ischemia model, dynamic changes in diffusion and glucose metabolism occur during and after injury. The evolving and irreproducible damage in this model necessitates simultaneous acquisition if meaningful multi-modal imaging data are to be acquired.

Anatomical Positions

2023

In anatomy, several standard anatomical positions are used as references for describing the position and orientation of different body parts. These positions help provide a common frame of reference when discussing anatomical structures. The anatomical position is the standard reference point for describing the body's position and orientation. In this position: The body is upright, facing forward, and standing erect. The feet are parallel and flat on the floor. The arms are hanging by the...
