Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time

Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT) is a laboratory coagulation test that measures how long plasma takes to form a clot, helping assess the intrinsic and common pathways of the blood-clotting cascade. In the assay, a plasma sample is combined with an activator, phospholipids, and calcium; the measured clotting time reflects the activity of factors such as VIII, IX, XI, XII, and the common-pathway factors. In pharmacology, aPTT is used primarily to monitor unfractionated heparin therapy and evaluate the effects of anticoagulant treatment. It also supports investigation of bleeding disorders, factor deficiencies, and abnormal coagulation results.

2026

This protocol describes a robot-assisted partial splenectomy for a benign splenic tumor. The robotic approach optimizes spleen preservation by enhancing surgical precision, minimizing blood loss, and improving postoperative outcomes. Key surgical steps include meticulous splenic hilum dissection, selective vascular ligation, intraoperative ultrasonography, and controlled parenchymal transection.

Partial Fractions

2025

A partial fraction is a component of a rational expression represented as the sum of simpler fractions. When a rational function is expressed as a ratio of two polynomials, it can often be decomposed into a sum of fractions whose denominators are simpler polynomials, typically linear or irreducible quadratic factors. This process is called partial fraction decomposition, and it is used to simplify complex expressions for integration, solving equations, or analysis.Partial fraction decomposition...

The supply of type 2 diabetic islets for research is insufficient. Here we share our protocol for isolating islets from patients undergoing partial pancreatectomy. This approach represents a unique venue for obtaining islets from type 2 diabetic and clinically matched non-diabetic subjects in adequate numbers for basic and clinical studies.
