Athletic Performance

Athletic performance is the ability to execute sport-specific movements and skills effectively, consistently, and efficiently under training or competitive conditions. In psychology, performance is shaped by interacting cognitive and emotional processes: attention directs information processing, motivation sustains effort, and arousal and anxiety can influence decision-making, concentration, and motor control. Psychological assessment and interventions such as goal setting, imagery, self-talk, relaxation, and pre-performance routines help athletes regulate these factors and respond to pressure. Studying these relationships supports individualized coaching, rehabilitation, talent development, and strategies that promote reliable performance and athlete well-being.

2014

There is great variability in an individual’s risk for concussion and their corresponding recovery. A multifaceted approach to concussion evaluation is warranted; including baseline testing of athletes before participation in sport and timely evaluation post injury. The goal of this protocol is to provide an appropriate multifaceted approach to examine concussions.

The hamstrings are a group of muscles that are sometimes problematic for athletes, resulting in soft tissue injury in the lower limbs. To prevent such injuries, functional training of the hamstrings requires intensive eccentric contractions. Additionally, hamstring function should be tested in relation to quadricep function at different contraction speeds.

Exercise induces a range of adaptations in muscle tissue, depending on the type and duration of activity. Such physical training can be broadly categorized into two types: endurance exercises and resistance exercises. Endurance exercises Endurance exercises involve running, swimming, or cycling, which require repetitive movements with low force output. When a person engages in endurance exercise, a few noticeable changes occur in their skeletal muscles. For instance, the number of capillaries...
