Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution is the process of addressing disagreements constructively so that individuals or groups can reduce harm, clarify needs, and reach workable agreements. In psychological practice, it typically combines active listening, perspective taking, emotional regulation, and collaborative negotiation to identify underlying interests rather than focusing only on stated positions or blame. Approaches such as mediation and problem-solving encourage participants to communicate concerns, generate options, and evaluate consequences before selecting a mutually acceptable response. Studying conflict resolution helps explain how relationships, teams, families, and communities manage tension, while informing counseling, education, organizational practice, and interventions designed to improve cooperation and well-being.
