Natural resources are materials found in nature that people use to live and create things. These include water, sunlight, soil, air, plants, animals, and minerals.
These resources are found almost everywhere. For example, we use iron nails and wood for the floors, doors, and roofs when building a home.
Car tires are made from both natural rubber, which comes from rubber trees, and synthetic rubber, which is made from petroleum. The metal body is made from minerals such as iron.
Electronics, like the mobile phones we carry, also rely on natural resources like petroleum for most plastic parts and metals such as copper and silicon for wiring and chips.
Even jewelry is made using minerals extracted from the ground, such as diamonds and silver.
The fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products we consume come from plants and animals, which are natural resources.
Among these resources, some, such as sunlight and wind, are renewable and can be used again and again.
Others, like fossil fuels and minerals, take millions of years to form and cannot be replaced quickly. These are called nonrenewable resources.
