Soon after Meiosis I is completed, the two new cells enter the next stage, Meiosis II, which also has four stages.
The first stage is Prophase II, during which the chromosomes condense, and the sister chromatids can be distinctly observed under a microscope.
Next is Metaphase II. In this stage, the chromosomes align in a single row at the center of each cell, and spindle fibers attach to the centromeres of each chromosome.
During Anaphase II, the sister chromatids are pulled apart by the spindle fibers to opposite ends of the cell, ensuring an equal number of chromosomes on both sides.
In Telophase II, new nuclear envelopes form around the separated chromatids.
After Meiosis II is completed, cytokinesis begins to divide the cells completely. This results in four genetically unique haploid cells, each containing half the DNA of the original parent cell.
