This study demonstrates a method for detecting amyloid aggregates in culture supernatants using thioflavin T fluorescence. The protocol involves measuring fluorescence signals before and after the addition of infected pulmonary endothelial cell supernatant.
This method enables quantitative detection of infection-induced amyloid aggregates, supporting target validation in infectious disease and neurodegeneration research. By measuring thioflavin T fluorescence changes, it provides a mechanistic readout for pathogen-triggered protein misfolding. The assay supports early de-risking of therapeutic hypotheses linking bacterial infection to amyloid pathology.
The assay fits within early discovery workflows where infection models are used to probe pathogenic mechanisms leading to protein misfolding.
