This study investigates the susceptibility of female mice to bacterial infections in the vaginal environment following hormonal treatment. The methodology includes inoculating the vaginal lumen with anaerobic bacterial pathogens and assessing the adherence and growth of these bacteria.
Modeling murine vaginal colonization by anaerobic bacteria provides a controlled system to evaluate pathogen adherence, biofilm formation, and host-microbe interactions under hormonally modulated conditions. This approach supports target validation in antimicrobial discovery by enabling mechanistic de-risking of virulence factors and biofilm-associated resistance. The methodology offers translational relevance for preclinical screening of anti-infective candidates targeting vaginal pathogens.
The method integrates into early discovery workflows by establishing a hormonally primed murine model for anaerobic pathogen challenge, enabling downstream evaluation of antimicrobial efficacy and host response modulation.
