Bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) offers a renewable, biocompatible scaffold for early-stage biomaterials screening and 3D cell culture models. Its production via microbial fermentation enables scalable, low-cost generation of defined extracellular matrix analogs for target validation in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The method supports mechanistic de-risking by providing a tunable, reproducible substrate for assessing compound-cell interactions in disease-relevant systems.
BNC production fits within the discovery continuum from target validation through lead identification to preclinical model refinement, providing a tunable microenvironment for iterative design-test cycles.
