This study investigates the role of lymphocytes in controlling Mycobacterium marinum infection in zebrafish, a model for human tuberculosis. It highlights the differences in immune response between wild-type and immunocompromised zebrafish.
This zebrafish model enables mechanistic de-risking of host-directed tuberculosis therapeutics by elucidating lymphocyte-dependent granuloma function and bacterial containment. It provides a disease-relevant system for validating immunomodulatory targets prior to lead identification in preclinical pipelines. The model supports predictive confidence in target validation by linking immune cell function to infection control outcomes.
The model integrates into early discovery workflows by enabling hypothesis testing on immune modulators, progressing to assay development for compound screening, and informing preclinical go/no-go decisions based on infection control metrics.
