This study demonstrates a method for imaging immune responses in the eye using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in a mouse model. The approach involves inducing uveitis through the injection of heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis and assessing inflammation via OCT imaging.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables non-invasive, longitudinal assessment of ocular inflammation in preclinical models, supporting target validation and mechanistic de-risking in ophthalmic drug development. By quantifying immune cell infiltration and tissue edema, OCT provides predictive readouts that improve go/no-go decisions and reduce late-stage failure risk in uveitis therapeutics. This imaging approach bridges discovery biology and translational research through objective, reproducible inflammation scoring.
OCT imaging fits within the discovery continuum from target validation through lead identification to preclinical efficacy testing, enabling data-driven decisions at each stage.
