This study investigates the cytotoxic effects of surfactant molecules on precision-cut lung slices (PCLS). By assessing lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, the integrity of cell membranes can be evaluated.
Assessing membrane integrity and cytotoxicity in human precision-cut lung slices provides a physiologically relevant model for early-stage pulmonary toxicology screening. Quantitative LDH release measurements enable mechanistic de-risking of surfactant-like compounds and support target validation in respiratory disease programs. This approach improves predictive confidence in lead identification by bridging in vitro findings with human tissue responses.
The LDH assay integrates into the discovery continuum from early biology to lead identification, providing quantitative cytotoxicity readouts that inform compound prioritization.
