This fluorescence-based assay enables quantitative detection of bile salt-induced biofilm formation in enteric pathogens, providing a mechanistic readout of bacterial stress response and protective adaptation. By linking environmental challenge (bile salt exposure) to EPS matrix production, the method supports target validation of biofilm-related virulence factors and de-risks anti-infective strategies aimed at disrupting biofilm integrity. The assay delivers predictive confidence in evaluating compound effects on pathogen resilience under physiologically relevant gastrointestinal conditions.
The assay fits within the discovery continuum from target hypothesis testing through lead identification to preclinical validation, specifically enabling evaluation of compounds that modulate biofilm formation in enteric pathogens.
