This article describes a method for injecting murine cytomegalovirus into the lateral ventricle of neonatal mice. The procedure allows for the visualization of the virus using enhanced green fluorescent protein.
This method enables precise delivery of viral vectors to the neonatal brain ventricular system, supporting early-stage target validation in neurovirology and CNS disease models. By visualizing viral distribution via fluorescent reporters, it provides mechanistic insights into pathogen-host interactions relevant to antiviral screening and biomarker discovery. The approach supports preclinical de-risking of neurotropic compounds by establishing reproducible infection dynamics in a disease-relevant system.
The technique fits within the discovery-to-preclinical continuum, enabling hypothesis testing in early discovery, assay-ready model generation in screening, and mechanistic de-risking in translational research.
