This article describes a method for establishing a zebrafish model of Alzheimer's disease by injecting synthetic amyloid peptides into the forebrain. The accumulation of these peptides leads to the formation of toxic amyloid plaques that damage neurons.
This zebrafish model enables early-stage interrogation of amyloid-beta toxicity mechanisms, supporting target validation in neurodegenerative disease programs. By recapitulating plaque formation and neuronal damage, it provides a disease-relevant system for mechanistic de-risking prior to lead identification. The model offers predictive confidence for screening compounds that modulate amyloid aggregation or neurotoxicity.
The model fits within early discovery workflows, bridging target validation to preclinical efficacy testing by providing a scalable vertebrate system for amyloid pathway interrogation.
