This study investigates the effects of laser-induced brain injury on the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in a rat model. The methodology includes the use of a tracking dye to assess BBB integrity following injury.
Assessing blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity is critical for evaluating neurotherapeutic delivery and neuroinflammatory responses in preclinical models. This laser-induced brain injury model provides a controlled method to quantify BBB disruption, supporting target validation and mechanistic de-risking in CNS drug development. The fluorescence-based readout enables objective, reproducible measurement of barrier permeability for go/no-go decisions in early discovery.
This method fits within the discovery continuum from target validation through preclinical efficacy screening, particularly for CNS-penetrant therapeutics where BBB integrity is a key determinant of exposure and safety.
