Este protocolo describe un método de examen de la jerarquía social en un modelo de rata. Las ratas realizan una compleja tarea de buceo para comer en la que forman una jerarquía distinta de acuerdo con su disposición a sumergirse bajo el agua y nadar para obtener un pellet de comida. Este método se utiliza para entender la toma de decisiones y las relaciones sociales entre animales altamente sociales en grupos pequeños.
