Tomoaki Ito

Dr. Tomoaki Ito is an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Juntendo University, School of Medicine, Juntendo Shizuoka Hospital, Shizuoka, Japan. He is a specialist in gastric and colorectal cancer surgery and can also provide endoscopic therapy to patients.

He graduated from Juntendo University, School of Medicine in 2000 and received training as a gastrointestinal surgeon. His research work was started in 2012. The research is to seek the early detection marker of lethal gastrointestinal cancers. He got a Ph.D. degree in cancer research in 2014. After that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in the USA between 2016 and 2019. He researched DNA methylation of cancer and the relationship between prenatal stress and cancer there. He currently works as a gastrointestinal surgeon and researches cancer detection markers, metabolism, methylation, and prenatal stress.
