Kinematic Kinetic Analysis

Kinematic Kinetic Analysis is a quantitative approach to studying movement by describing how a body moves and the forces that produce or change that motion. Kinematic measurements track variables such as position, displacement, velocity, acceleration, and joint angles, while kinetic analysis relates movement to forces, torques, and mechanical work, often using motion capture and force measurements. In behavioral research, combining these data reveals how humans or animals coordinate actions, adapt movements to environmental demands, and express differences linked to learning or motor impairment. The results support objective comparisons of behavior and inform biomechanics, neuroscience, rehabilitation, and robotics.

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA This experiment demonstrates the kinematics of motion in 1 and 2 dimensions. This lab will begin by studying motion in 1 dimension, under constant acceleration, by launching a projectile directly upward and measuring the maximum height reached. This lab will verify that the maximum height reached is consistent with the kinematic...

We apply label-free protein interaction analysis using Biacore X100 for structure-function analysis of the binding of several cystatin B mutants to papain through kinetic characterization. Calibration-free concentration analysis (CFCA) measures the concentration of protein with retained binding activity without the need for a standard curve. We show that confirmation of concentrations using CFCA increases the reliability of the kinetic analysis and that kinetic constants can reliably be...

Kinematic gait analysis in the sagittal plane yields highly precise information about how movement is executed. We describe the application of these techniques to identify gait deficits for mice subjected to autoimmune-mediated demyelination. These methods may also be used to characterize gait deficits for other mouse models featuring impaired locomotion.
