Narrative Engagement

Narrative engagement is the psychological involvement people experience when a story captures their attention, emotions, imagination, and sense of meaning. It develops through processes such as narrative transportation, character identification, emotional response, and the construction of mental models that allow audiences to become immersed in a story world. In behavioral research, narrative engagement helps explain how stories influence beliefs, attitudes, intentions, and social behavior by making information personally relevant and easier to remember. Studying these effects supports the design and evaluation of health communication, education, public campaigns, and interventions intended to encourage constructive behavioral change.

Source: Heidbuechel, J. P., et al. Paramyxoviruses for Tumor-targeted Immunomodulation: Design and Evaluation Ex Vivo. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).This video demonstrates a cell-based assay to evaluate the target-specific immunomodulatory activity of a virally encoded bispecific T-cell engager (BTE). The BTE links tumor cells expressing a target receptor with T cells, triggering tumor lysis and enzyme release. A colorimetric readout, based on substrate conversion, indicates T-cell activation.
