Goat Jejunum

The goat jejunum is the middle segment of the small intestine, where much of the digestion and absorption of dietary nutrients occurs, making it important for studying ruminant biochemistry. Its mucosal folds and villi expand the absorptive surface, while enterocytes use brush-border enzymes and membrane transporters to break down and take up carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, water, and ions. Investigations of goat jejunum help characterize nutrient transport, intestinal enzyme activity, epithelial metabolism, and responses to diet or disease. These findings support research in animal nutrition, livestock health, feed efficiency, and comparative studies of gastrointestinal function.

An Immunofluorescence-Based Method for Visualizing Tuft Cells in Jejunum Cryosections

2025

This video illustrates an immunofluorescence-based method for visualizing intestinal tuft cells in free-floating mouse jejunum cryosections. Within the intestinal villi, the co-localization of green fluorescence at the luminal tip with an extended red rootlet mass indicates the presence of tuft cells.

Preimplantation embryos may be cryopreserved after placement into a hypertonic cryoprotective solution to cause cellular dehydration. After equilibration, ice crystal formation is induced in the solution surrounding the embryo. Further dehydration occurs as the embryo is slowly cooled to subzero temperatures before plunging into liquid nitrogen for storage.

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Kuga et al. discovered that phosphorylation-status specific antibodies against the actin binding protein girdin phosphorylated at tyrosine 1798 (pY1798) can be used to label tuft cells (TCs). This protocol allows robust visualization of TCs using immunofluorescent staining of free-floating jejunum cryosections with pY1798 antibodies.
