In Vivo Activation

In vivo activation is the conversion of an inactive or less active molecule into its functional form within a living organism, a biochemical process that regulates activity in its physiological context. Activation can occur through enzyme-catalyzed cleavage, oxidation, reduction, phosphorylation, or conformational change, depending on the molecule and cellular conditions. These reactions can control the function of zymogens, hormones, signaling proteins, and drug precursors, often linking molecular structure to tissue-specific activity. Studying in vivo activation helps researchers understand metabolic pathways, biological regulation, drug efficacy, and potential toxicity, while supporting the design of compounds whose effects depend on selective biochemical conversion.

2016

To detect healthy cells in whole animals that contain low levels of caspase activity, the highly sensitive biosensor designated CaspaseTracker was generated for Drosophila. Caspase-dependent biosensor activity is detected in long-lived healthy cells throughout the internal organs of adult animals reared under optimized conditions in the absence of death stimuli.

Detection of the pH-dependent Activity of Escherichia coli Chaperone HdeB In Vitro and In Vivo

2016

This study describes biophysical, biochemical and molecular techniques to characterize the chaperone activity of Escherichia coli HdeB under acidic pH conditions. These methods have been successfully applied for other acid-protective chaperones such as HdeA and can be modified to work for other chaperones and stress conditions.

In Vivo Activation of Peritoneal Macrophages in Response to Antibodies in a Murine Model

2025

This video demonstrates the activation of a mouse's peritoneal macrophages using intravenous immunoglobulin and bacterial lipopolysaccharide. The co-stimulation activates the peritoneal macrophages into anti-inflammatory macrophages possessing immune regulatory activity.

Drosophila In Vivo Calcium Imaging: A Method for Functional Imaging of Neuronal Activity
