Nutritional Intervention

Nutritional intervention is the deliberate modification of food intake, nutrient composition, or dietary patterns to influence health, metabolism, or disease outcomes. In biochemistry, it works by changing the availability of substrates and cofactors that regulate energy production, enzyme activity, gene expression, and cellular signaling. Interventions may adjust macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, or overall dietary balance according to a person’s physiological needs or clinical condition. Researchers and healthcare professionals use nutritional interventions to study metabolic pathways, manage nutrient deficiencies and chronic diseases, and evaluate how diet affects biomarkers and long-term health.

Parenteral Nutrition (PN) delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. It is commonly used for individuals with severe digestive disorders or conditions that prevent normal nutrient absorption. PN can be administered through two primary routes: 1. Central Parenteral Nutrition (CPN): CPN involves delivering a high concentration of nutrients through a large vein. This is typically achieved using a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) or,...

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Organisms exhibit remarkable metabolic diversity, categorized based on how they acquire energy and carbon. These strategies enable survival in various ecological niches and are essential for maintaining energy flow and nutrient cycling within ecosystems.Energy and Carbon SourcesOrganisms are classified as phototrophs or chemotrophs based on energy acquisition. Phototrophs use light as their energy source, while chemotrophs rely on oxidizing chemical compounds. Further differentiation arises...

Current treatments of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) aim at alleviating disease symptoms but may cause severe side effects. Thus, alternative strategies are being investigated in animal colitis models. Here, we explain how the beneficial effects of diet supplements on clinical IBD signs are analyzed in such a colitis model.
