Biomimetic Dental Restoration

Biomimetic dental restoration is a bioengineering approach to repairing damaged teeth by reproducing the structure, mechanics, and biological principles of natural enamel and dentin, rather than relying solely on traditional mechanical retention. Clinicians remove diseased tissue conservatively, bond restorative materials to sound tooth structure, and shape layered composites or ceramics to distribute chewing forces, limit stress concentrations, and preserve vital tissues. This tissue-preserving strategy can support durable repairs for caries, fractures, and worn teeth while maintaining natural form and function. By linking materials science, adhesive dentistry, and biomechanics, biomimetic restoration guides the development of more lifelike dental materials and regenerative approaches.
