High-throughput Production

High-throughput production is a manufacturing approach that generates and processes many biological or engineered products in parallel, enabling rapid evaluation and scale-up in bioengineering. It combines miniaturized workflows, automation, standardized operating conditions, and rapid analytical screening to increase experimental capacity while maintaining consistent measurements. Researchers use high-throughput production to optimize biomaterial formulations, engineer cells or microorganisms, evaluate bioprocess parameters, and identify promising candidates for further development. By reducing material use and shortening iteration cycles, this approach supports more reproducible research, accelerates biomanufacturing development, and helps translate laboratory innovations into scalable technologies.

This work presents a method of high-throughput screening using a universal genetic enzyme screening system that can be theoretically applied to over 200 enzymes. Here, the single screening system identifies three different enzymes (lipase, cellulase, and alkaline phosphatase) by simply changing the substrate used (p-nitrophenyl acetate, p-nitrophenyl-β-D-cellobioside, and phenyl phosphate).
