Peg Fibrin Gel

Peg fibrin gel is a synthetic hydrogel that combines fibrin, a protein involved in blood clot formation, with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to create a tunable three-dimensional matrix for bioengineering. It forms when thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, while PEG modification or crosslinking alters the network’s mechanical strength, swelling, porosity, and degradation behavior. These properties allow researchers to adjust the gel for cell encapsulation, tissue engineering, and localized delivery of therapeutic molecules. By providing a hydrated, biomimetic environment with controllable stability, Peg fibrin gel supports the design of engineered tissues and regenerative systems that require both biological activity and structural control.

Clot Retraction and Fibrinolysis

2024

After a fibrin clot is formed, the next step is clot retraction, a vital process facilitated by platelet contractile proteins, such as actin and myosin. These proteins pull the fibrin strands closer together and condense the clot. This action reduces the size of the clot, creating a smaller, denser structure that effectively seals off the damaged vessel. Clot retraction consolidates the clot and helps with wound healing by bringing the edges of the damaged blood vessel closer together.
