Auto Exposure Settings

Auto exposure settings are automated controls that adjust image acquisition parameters to produce a suitable brightness level under changing illumination conditions. A camera or microscope measures the detected signal and modifies variables such as exposure time, sensor gain, or illumination intensity to prevent images from becoming too dark or saturated. In biological imaging, these settings support efficient visualization of cells, tissues, and fluorescent specimens when sample brightness varies. However, changing acquisition parameters can affect measured intensity, so fixed exposure conditions are generally preferable for quantitative comparisons, while auto exposure is useful for screening, focusing, and routine documentation.

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.
