Avian Embryo Manipulation

Avian embryo manipulation is the controlled alteration, observation, or transfer of a developing bird embryo to investigate embryology, genetics, development, and disease. Because embryos develop within accessible eggs, researchers can open the shell or use windowing techniques to access tissues, then apply microsurgery, graft cells or tissues, inject substances, or modify environmental conditions while development continues. These interventions reveal how embryonic cells communicate, migrate, and form organs, and they can test gene function and developmental mechanisms. Avian embryos therefore provide practical models for developmental biology, regenerative research, toxicology, and comparative studies of vertebrate development.

Microinjection-based System for In Vivo Implantation of Embryonic Cardiomyocytes in the Avian Embryo

2019

In this method, embryonic cardiac tissues are surgically microdissected, dissociated, fluorescently labeled, and implanted into host embryonic tissues. This provides a platform for studying the individual or tissue level developmental organization under ectopic hemodynamic conditions, and/or altered paracrine/juxtacrine environments.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...
