Blood Perfusion Analysis

Blood perfusion analysis is the measurement and characterization of blood flow through tissues, providing insight into how effectively oxygen and nutrients reach cells. It works by tracking blood movement or tissue responses over time using approaches such as flow sensors, imaging signals, or injected tracers, which can estimate parameters including flow rate, blood volume, and transit time. In biology, these measurements help relate circulation to tissue metabolism, vascular function, and organ performance. Blood perfusion analysis supports studies of normal physiology and disease, including impaired circulation, while enabling researchers to evaluate experimental treatments and changes in vascular health.

This video describes the technique for performing angiography by injecting a contrast agent into the descending aorta to visualize blood vessel perfusion in a rabbit model. This technique helps to understand the perfusion in blood vessels with blockages and after treatment during recovery.

Antegrade Perfusion Model: An Ex Vivo Technique to Perfuse Isolated Mouse Heart

2025

This video describes an antegrade perfusion technique of an isolated mouse heart during which a perfusate is injected through the left ventricle, and eventually, it perfuses the entire myocardium. This method can be used to isolate cardiomyocytes from murine models and generate decellularized hearts for further downstream applications.

Langendorff Retrograde Heart Perfusion: An Ex Vivo Technique to Perfuse Isolated Mouse Heart

In this video, we perform Langendorff retrograde perfusion of an isolated mouse heart. During the procedure, the cardiac activity of the heart is maintained by perfusing it retrogradely with a perfusion solution via the coronary arteries using a cannula inserted into the ascending aorta. The model is used to study the cardiac pathophysiology of the heart.
