Blood Smear Analysis

Blood smear analysis is a laboratory method that examines blood cells on a thin, stained film to assess their number, appearance, and relative proportions. A drop of blood is spread across a slide, fixed or air-dried, stained to distinguish cellular structures, and viewed under a microscope; cell size, shape, color, and inclusions can then be evaluated during a differential count. In biology and clinical research, this technique helps identify abnormalities in red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, supporting the investigation of anemia, infection, inflammation, blood disorders, and parasitic disease. It also provides a direct, low-cost complement to automated hematology measurements.
