Pollen Trap Assembly

Pollen trap assembly is the process of constructing and preparing a device that collects airborne pollen for identification and measurement. The trap typically uses an exposed adhesive or collection surface positioned in an airflow, allowing pollen grains to settle or impact on it while the device remains protected from weather and contamination. Proper assembly and placement support consistent sampling across locations and time periods. In biology, pollen traps help researchers study pollen dispersal, flowering patterns, plant reproduction, biodiversity, and seasonal changes, while also providing data relevant to aerobiology, ecological monitoring, and airborne allergen assessment.

We present a non-lethal and automated mechanism to collect pollen from bumble bee (Bombus) workers returning to a hive. Instructions for producing, preparing, installing and using the devices are included. By using 3D-printed objects, modification to the design was timely, efficient and allowed for quick turnaround for testing.

Social Traps

Social traps are negative situations where people get caught in a direction or relationship that later proves to be unpleasant, with no easy way to back out of or avoid. The concept was orignally introduced by John Platt who applied psychology to Garrett Hardin's "Tragedy of the Commons", where in New England herd owners could let their cattle graze in the common ground. This situation seems like a good idea, but an individual could have an advantage. If they owned more cows, the larger...
