Chronic Relapsing Eae

Chronic relapsing EAE (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis) is an animal model of immune-mediated central nervous system disease that reproduces recurring neurological deficits and helps researchers study multiple sclerosis. It develops when immunization with myelin-associated antigens activates autoreactive T cells, which cross the blood-brain barrier and promote inflammation, demyelination, and subsequent periods of remission and relapse. Researchers use this model to examine interactions among immune cells, myelin, and neural tissue, while evaluating disease mechanisms and potential therapies. Its reproducible cycles of worsening and recovery provide a framework for testing immunomodulatory treatments and investigating factors that drive chronic neuroinflammation.

This video demonstrates the induction and clinical scoring of an animal model of multiple sclerosis: chronic-relapsing experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in DA rats. The disease, induced by immunizing rats with an emulsion containing whole rat spinal cord and complete Freund's adjuvant, presents clinical signs resembling the human disease.

The transplantation of neural stem/progenitor cells (NPCs) holds great promises in regenerative neurology. The systemic delivery of NPCs has turned into effective, low invasive, and therapeutically very efficacious protocol to deliver stem cells in the brain and spinal cord of rodents and nonhuman primates affected by experimental chronic inflammatory damage of the central nervous system.

(2017).This video demonstrates the method for visualizing and monitoring Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis or EAE-induced inflammation in the optic nerve using bioluminescence imaging. It includes positioning the mouse, reagent injection, and capturing sequential images to monitor changes in bioluminescence over time.

Overcoming Unresponsiveness in Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) Resistant Mouse Strains by Adoptive Transfer and Antigenic Challenge

Certain mouse strains are able to resist induction of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) with myelin basic protein. Described here is a simple immunization protocol that reverses the unresponsiveness and induces paralytic disease in several typical EAE resistant mouse stains.
