Clsi M27-a3

CLSI M27-A3 is a standardized reference method for determining the in vitro antifungal susceptibility of yeasts, supporting consistent interpretation of how fungal isolates respond to drugs. The method uses broth dilution, typically in RPMI 1640 medium, to expose standardized yeast inocula to serial concentrations of an antifungal agent under controlled incubation conditions; the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is recorded by assessing visible growth inhibition. In clinical microbiology and biology research, these results help characterize antifungal activity, detect reduced susceptibility, guide treatment decisions, and support surveillance of emerging resistance. Standardized testing also improves comparability among laboratories, studies, and new antifungal evaluations.

Exponential Population Growth Model ExpandNOTE: In these experiments you will use computer software to simulate different types of growth models. HYPOTHESES: The experimental hypothesis might be that if we increase either R, the reproductive rate or the initial population size, NT, that this will increase the population size after 10 generations in an exponential growth model compared to unmanipulated control populations. The null hypothesis may be that populations of different R and initial...

Polyprotic Acids

Acids are classified by the number of protons per molecule that they can give up in a reaction. Acids such as HCl, HNO3, and HCN that contain one ionizable hydrogen atom in each molecule are called monoprotic acids. Their reactions with water are: Monoprotic acids: Reactions with water HCl (aq) + H2O (l) ⟶ H3O+ (aq) + Cl− (aq) HNO3 (aq) + H2O (l) ⟶ H3O+ (aq) + NO3− (aq) HCN (aq) + H2O (l) ⇌ H3O+ (aq) + CN− (aq) Even though it contains four hydrogen...

Electron Transport Chains

The final stage of cellular respiration is oxidative phosphorylation that consists of two steps: the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis. The electron transport chain is a set of proteins found in the inner mitochondrial membrane in eukaryotic cells. Its primary function is to establish a proton gradient that can be used during chemiosmosis to produce ATP and generate electron carriers, such as NAD+ and FAD, that are used in glycolysis and the citric acid cycle. The ETC is comprised of...

Identifying Macromolecules with Indicator Solutions ExpandHYPOTHESES: In this activity, the experimental hypothesis might be that the addition of an indicator dye to each test solution will result in a color change if the test solution contains the macromolecule of interest. The null hypothesis might be that the addition of an indicator dye will not result in a color change in any of the test solutions. Place 16 clean test tubes in a tube rack in four rows of four tubes and label each row A...
