Collagen Fibronectin Fibrinogen Gel

Collagen fibronectin fibrinogen gel is a biomimetic three-dimensional matrix that combines structural proteins and adhesive cues to support cell growth, organization, and migration in laboratory models. Collagen provides a fibrous scaffold, fibronectin promotes cell attachment through integrin-binding sites, and fibrinogen can be converted to fibrin by thrombin, producing a cross-linked network that stabilizes the gel. Researchers adjust protein concentrations and gelation conditions to control matrix stiffness, porosity, and degradation. In biology, this composite hydrogel helps model extracellular matrix environments for studying tissue development, wound healing, angiogenesis, cell-matrix interactions, and regenerative processes under more physiologically relevant conditions than conventional two-dimensional culture.

Collagen is another widely used biomaterial that has found popularity in commercial applications, such as photography. Collagen has more recently been used in tissue engineering applications, by creating hydrogels that provide structure to engineered tissue. This video introduces collagen as a biomaterial, demonstrates how it is harvested from porcine skin, and shows how the material is used to create a hydrogel for tissue engineering applications. Finally, several applications of the material...
