Conductance Catheter Mice

Conductance catheter mice refers to the use of miniaturized conductance catheters in mice to measure cardiac pressure and ventricular volume in vivo, providing detailed assessment of heart function. The catheter’s electrodes introduce a small electrical current and detect blood conductance, while an integrated pressure sensor records intraventricular pressure; together, these signals generate pressure-volume loops. Researchers use this method to quantify systolic and diastolic performance, including contractility, relaxation, stroke volume, and cardiac output, in models of cardiovascular disease, genetic modification, and drug treatment. Its real-time measurements help link molecular or structural changes to whole-heart function.

2023

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT The purpose of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIV) insertion is to infuse medications, perform intravenous (IV) fluid therapy, or inject radioactive tracers for special examination procedures. Placing a PIV is an invasive procedure and requires the use of an aseptic, no-touch technique. Common IV venipuncture sites are the arms and hands in adults and the feet in children. According to...
